Organization is key for a healthy, productive lifestyle, especially when it comes to the workplace. If your desk is still a landfill, you’re missing important meetings due to a lack of calendar tracking or the latest finished project has seemingly disappeared, it’s time for a change.
Start the new year right with a better sense of your materials, thoughts and projected goals. Keep the following  tips in mind for maximized organization.
To begin, think small.
Making large, overarching changes can be daunting, often causing people to let go of their projected goals in a matter of days. Start with a short list of changes that can be made for better organization such as cleaning your desk off every Friday before leaving for the weekend or bringing a few items home each day.
“Small steps are more likely to stick than trying to do over everything,” said Fay Wolf, author of New Order: A Decluttering Handbook for Creative Folks (And Everyone Else).

Create safe spaces for important items

Next, consider creating a space where the most important items and ideas can be stored. These may include an email inbox, monthly calendar or constantly changing to-do list. If something isn’t listed in one of these three set places, it should be seen as less important in terms of completing daily tasks. By keeping these areas tidy, you’ll never miss a meeting again!

Budget out your time

Finally, be sure to budget out time appropriately. It can be easy to become bogged down in less important tasks throughout the day, especially if they are easier to accomplish or less stressful than high risk expectations. Consider setting aside one day per week or a specific time each day to complete smaller tasks, so the larger, more important ones are always at the forefront.
If these suggestions don’t seem to be the best for your needs, take some time to determine what may be the most helpful and where to begin.
