Ergonomics as Prevention for Musculoskeletal Disorders

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tendonitis, Tennis Elbow and Trigger Finger are all common musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s). According to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA)  MSD risk factors occur “…in jobs requiring repetitive, forceful, or prolonged exertions of the hands; frequent or heavy lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying of heavy objects; and prolonged awkward postures.”
MSD risk factors can be decreased or eliminated by using methods that make the tool or job a better fit for the person using the tool or doing the job.  The science of adapting the tool and not the body is Ergonomics.
The Video On Demand training Ergonomics Understanding Musculoskeletal Disorders explains exactly what the Musculoskeletal System is in simple terms and how to avoid MSD’s. An interactive Advantage version of this course is also available. Learners who complete the Advantage version earn 0.1 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
