How is your business managed? Although many may focus on the end product, customer service or daily tasks, which are all important in their own right, the way in which these are achieved is also vital.
The core of a team begins and ends with the manner in which it is managed. High-impact teams should be strived for, groups of employees that work together in a fluid, efficient motion toward a common end goal.
There are a few ways leaders can better manage their teams. For starters, leaders should establish not only the “what” is happening or “how” it is being done, but the “why” it is being done in the first place. The “why” is the most important, as it outlines the reasoning behind the late nights or early mornings, as well as solidifies a member’s role in the process. By answering questions in the beginning and outlining a timeline, the goal can often be met with more success in a shorter timeframe.
Take time before each official meeting to debrief on the latest developments and contributions from each team member. Meetings should be kept to a strict timeframe with a clear agenda, but should remain open to any personal issues that may have arisen between the last meeting and now.
Finally, be sure to model behaviors you would like your team to have. Being open in terms of communication, habits or workflow is crucial, as it sets a tone for the rest of the group.
More efficient teamwork often spurs greater productivity between team members, outlying employees and management. Productivity is essential in the workplace, as without it, nothing will ever become a finished thought or tangible product.
Increasing the productivity of employees can foster better teamwork skills, motivate workers to understand their roles better within the big picture of the business and simply accomplish tasks in the best way possible.
Increase the productivity of your teams and workspace in general with the following four tips in mind:

  • Commit to a work-life balance: Longer projects can seem to eat up all the time during the week, but other tasks may need to be completed as well. Take a few minutes each day to map out the hours spent on one project or another. Be sure employees are in turn not overloaded, as work should always remain at work and not interfere with outside hours.
  • Communicate: Talking to team members periodically to check in see how they are doing is vital. Keeping lines of communication open ensures that deadlines are being met, expectations are divided equally and everyone is comfortable with their assigned tasks.
  • Reflect: The work week can turn into a blur at times, especially during longer term projects. It’s important to keep your team on task and energized with weekly outings and time spent away from the actual project for a fresh set of eyes.
  • Think short and long-term: Setting short and long-term goals is vital. By establishing these timelines, deadlines can be met with ease, and efficiency can be projected.
