Prevent Workplace Absenteeism During the Flu Season

With influenza spreading across the country, now, more than ever, pandemic preparedness in the workplace is crucial in keeping your workplace in action, especially during the flu season.   “A person can have influenza more than once because there are different families and strains of the virus, each of which can lead to a new infection,” stated from the American Lung Association.
It is important to recognize that daily operations would be different with a lot of absent employees in the workplace.  The Homeland Security Council developed the National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza Implementation Plan to help guide organizations in preparing and dealing in case of a pandemic.
The Implementation plan defines five response areas:

  1. Be prepared
  2. Be aware
  3. Don’t pass it on
  4. Keep your distance
  5. Help your community

Through the training course, “Pandemic Preparedness,” these five response areas are thoroughly defined, along with common practices to keep you healthy.

The federal government website, “flu.gov,” is an informative and helpful site for topics such as influenza symptoms, prevention, and planning and preparedness.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), provides a complete section on their website for seasonal influenza.  According to the CDC, influenza activity remains elevated overall, while it is mainly decreasing in on the East side of the country but increasing in the West.  Information such as this can be found in the “Summary of Weekly FluView”  section off of the CDC’s website.
Though it is impossible to predict when a pandemic will arise, preparedness is vital in minimizing or preventing the effects of the virus. Using Mastery’s training course will help inform your workers how to keep themselves as well as their workplace a healthier and safer one.
