As more employees choose to work from home, or other spaces outside of the traditional work environment, how can the work-life balance be maintained? When you work from home, how do you put boundaries on your work day?

How often do employees work from home?

According to a recent Gallup poll, 37 percent of employees reported telecommuting, four times greater than the 9 percent reported in 1995. On average, Americans work from home two days a week.

Create an outline:

Be sure to outline your day, as this often propels employees to a more productive, efficient day. Projecting goals creates a sense of accomplishment when finally finished.

Designate a working space:

Home is home, and should be treated as such, especially if you’re working there too. Create a distraction-free space that ensures tasks can be completed in an appropriate timeframe. This work space should only be used for office-related events and kept closed when not in use. By doing so, routines can be created and followed with ease.

Take time to ease back into the zone:

If you work from home, there is no real commute or other time to wind down from the day’s events. With the latest technological advancements and mobile capabilities, workers must be able to power down their days at the close of work in order to recharge for the next day.
With these tips in mind, overall productivity and engagement can be increased.
