There is an increasing culture of job-hopping in the modern workforce. Instead of staying with one company for decades, millennials and other employees live in a state of persistent, passive job searching. They are always open to switching jobs if they find one that better aligns with their interests and goals. One of the most important factors for retaining this group is work-life balance.
Modern employees want to work for flexible companies that allow them to have lives outside the office. In fact, a 2015 Indeed survey concluded that over half of workers would consider switching jobs if another company offered a better benefits that were conducive to work/life balance. Commuter struggles 
Commuting is one of the biggest hassles for workers in large cities. Overpopulation makes driving nearly unthinkable, and public transit systems are not always reliable, especially during bad weather. Employees don’t want to feel like they are wasting most of their free time on buses, trains or in their cars. It can ruin their mood and set up a poor attitude for the working day. Employers can help with this by offering commuter compensation to alleviate the financial burden of travel or by allowing employees to work from home.

Greater retention and productivity
Many offices have not implemented benefits to increase work/life balance because they are worried about a decrease in productivity or attendance. Yet, most employers who focus their attention on developing those policies see an increase in employee retention and improved productivity. If an employee feels like their business respects their time enough to allow them enough freedom for work/life balance, the employee will have better feelings toward the company. In return, he or she may be more inclined to stick with the company for a longer time.
Improved physical and mental health 
Modern business is stressful and demanding. Long days in the office mean employees have less time to exercise, prepare healthy meals and decompress mentally. When employees are not confined to their desks all day, they are able to go for a walk or visit the gym. They also have more time to dedicate to their nutrition, making them healthier than if they were to pack fast, microwave meals or eat out while at the office. By giving employees the time and flexibility to focus on work/life balance, you are presenting them with a chance to spend more time on their health and mental well-being.
If your office does not present the opportunity for good work/life balance, it is time to make some changes. There are a number of positive factors that result from this equilibrium, and it benefits not only your employees but your company as a whole.
